On November 25, 2017, comedian Ralphie May had been scheduled for an upcoming performance at the First Avenue Club in Iowa City.

He had become somewhat of a regular at the venue since placing second on NBC's "Last Comic Standing" in 2003, most recently making an appearance in fall 2016, according to First Avenue Club owner Ned Mendenhall, who I spoke with briefly.  May's death last week at the age of 45 has patrons who had planned to attend the show, scrambling to change their plans and the club is working with May's management on issuing refunds.

The First Avenue Club's website said in response to the passing of Ralphie May.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Ralphie May. Over the past several years we have been blessed to have him grace our stage many times. I also have been lucky to have been a guest of Ralphie at many of his shows in Vegas. He will be greatly missed. We will begin sorting thru everything next week to begin issuing refunds to ticket holders. RIP Ralphie. You were a great comedian, great man and a friend. Heaven gained a heck of a man. I miss you buddy

He appeared in Cedar Rapids at Penguins Comedy Club in April 2014, according to their website.

Our thoughts are also with the family and friends of Ralphie May, another highly talented entertainer, gone too soon.
