Iowa City Daycare Worker Charged After Child In Her Care Dies

Iowa City Police have charged 49-year-old Wendy Young in the death of a 7-month old baby in her care last October.

According to the Iowa City Press-Citizen, authorities allege Young drank between 10 and 12 beers before watching the child in her Iowa City home on October 18, 2017.

When Iowa City Police arrived at the house, the child was unresponsive and was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. KCRG reports Young was caring for multiple children that day. The 7-month old was the youngest. The oldest was three years old.

Iowa City Police say there was still alcohol in Young's system eight hours after she began to watch the kids.

Young was arrested early this morning and is behind held in the Johnson County Jail in Iowa City.

Late last month, Washington County authorities announced they were investigating the death of an infant in rural Ainsworth Saturday, March 24. No further information has been released to this point.
