If Thursday's performance in downtown Los Angeles was any indication, music fans are in for one special trek with Imagine Dragons and Metric teaming up for their upcoming run. The two bands took over the Mayan Theater in L.A. to announce their tour (which also includes alterna-upstarts Halsey) and to offer fans both in attendance and watching online via a webcast a taste of what's to come.

Metric pair Emily Haines and James Shaw played a brief acoustic set to start the entertainment. Haines settled in on piano with Shaw playing acoustic guitar on a moving rendition of 'Breathing Underwater' off their 'Synthetica' album. They followed with a brand new track that is currently untitled, teasing it as 'The Song With No Name' before it being met with a very positive reaction. (Haines would later tell Diffuser that the song title is a bone of contention within the group. She and Shaw worked up the song very late for the special show and rather than rush a moniker, it remains untitled for now and may be subject to input from their fans before giving it an official title.) Finishing out their three-song set, the duo offered up the title track from the 'Synthetica' album.

Next up came a brief Q&A with Imagine Dragons' members who officially made the announcement of the tour. During the chat the band discussed their goals with the new album, offered tales about angering their hotel neighbors trying to record while on tour in hotel rooms and spoke of how their relentless schedule affected the creative process for the disc.

Frontman Dan Reynolds stated of the 'Smoke + Mirrors' album, "We really tried to tell a story with the record. Our favorite records when we were growing up were records that you listen to from start to finish and it really tells a story. You feel the peaks and the valleys. So yeah, it was a bit of a struggle to get to that point, to get the songs correct and the order correct, but we really feel good about it."

After the chat, the band members took their places on the stage, starting things off with 'It's Time.' The group altered the beginning a bit to disguise the song, but eventually found the pace that tipped fans off to their popular breakout track. They followed with four new songs from 'Smoke + Mirrors.' 'Gold' fits right in with some of their percussive excellence, with the song getting an energetic boost midway in. The songs 'Summer' and 'I'm So Sorry' followed, marking the first times the band has played either of the tracks live; of the pair, 'I'm So Sorry' feels like the catchier of the two.

Then it was their current mega-hit, 'I Bet My Life,' which truly translates to the stage and is taken to another level when played live. And finally, Imagine Dragons finished out with the booming beats and giant drum mastery of their 'Night Visions' favorite, 'Radioactive.'

The 'Smoke + Mirrors' tour, featuring Imagine Dragons, Metric and Halsey, goes on sale Feb. 17, the same day Imagine Dragons' 'Smoke + Mirrors' record arrives in store. For dates, click here. In the meantime, check out our exclusive photo gallery from the performance below:
