More than two years ago, I was thinking of buying a house in Cedar Rapids. I looked at several homes in a variety of neighborhoods, but couldn't find the right feel for me.

Then I spotted a home for sale just outside of the New Bohemia neighborhood. The NewBo City Market had just recently opened and the area was getting a little buzz. I was excited by the potential of the neighborhood and I loved the house, so I put an offer in and bought the property.

It was the best decision I've ever made.

NewBo has exploded in the past couple years. It went from a fledgling experiment in neighborhood renewal to now being Cedar Rapids' premiere destination, in my opinion.

It's like CR's own version of Silver Lake in Los Angeles, or Chicago's Wicker Park.

Bars, restaurants and shops fill NewBo with constant action -- you can find something to do on every night of the week. Grab a drink at Parlor City or NewBo Alehouse. Swing by for an ice cream cone or some popcorn at the Great American Popcorn Co. Eat a delicious meal at Bata's.

There's plenty of new construction in the future and things just keep getting better.

KRNA recently announced the NewBo Music Festival presented by The National, coming up on August 8th at NewBo City Market. It's going to be a cool event for some great music. It'll also be a stellar showcase for Cedar Rapids' coolest neighborhood.
