Herky’s a Republican?

Herky the Hawkeye, the beloved mascot for the University of Iowa, made an appearance last week at U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst's Roast and Ride. The event included a motorcycle ride from Des Moines to a barbecue in Boone. The UI mascot posed for pictures and joked around with reporters. Oh yeah, and the event was also a Republican fundraiser.

Whoops.

So, Herky's a Republican? Huh, I never knew.

University of Iowa officials have since come out and said it was a mistake for Herky to have appeared at the event. Officials say that the UI Spirit Squad was unaware that it was a partisan event. They gladly accepted, and kept, that $250 appearance fee, though.

Money talks, and now Herky is a Republican. I need a drink.
