Unofficially, Labor Day weekend marked the end of summer. But it didn't end the summer of fun by any stretch of the imagination. We have a list of things to enjoy but if you're looking for some outside-the-box fun, look no further than Ellis Park this weekend.

The Cedar Boat Club is hosting its 5th annual "Fire on the River" jet boat drag racing event. It will take place on Saturday, September 9 just down the river from Ellis Park.

One of the organizers, Kevin Curl, says about 30 boats enter the event on average every year, for this quarter-mile bracket-style elimination boat race tournament.

Race registration begins on Saturday at 9 a.m. with "test and tune" sessions starting at 10. Races fire off starting at 1 p.m.

The event is free to the public to watch, $40 to participate in. Anyone with a boat is encouraged to sign up, and with food vendors on site it looks like a fun, late-summer activity to watch or participate in.

Anyone needing more info can contact the Cedar Boat Club or visit their website. You can also email Kevin Curl at kecurl@q.com.
