Bear with me.

Today, I am thinking about a very special woman and I'm going to get a little emotional. Today, August 2nd, would be the 62nd birthday of my dear mom.

We lost her seven years ago to cancer and that final year proved what a fighter she was. They almost threw us out of hospice for being there too long, because she just kept hanging on! My Dad then proved what a strong, admirable man he is too and did what it took to keep her there under the best care she could have had.

When the preacher before the funeral asked me what I wanted him to say about her, it was mostly about her commitment to family. Everything she did was with us in mind and I will never forget that about her. We went to see "Rocky Balboa" together in the movie theater. I don't know if she particularly loved the movie, but she made great company because that's who she was. The best parts of me, I got from her.

As time goes on it gets easier to move on without her, except on days like this. Her birthday, the anniversary of her death back in May, Mother's Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, you get the idea.

If there's one thing I could ask of you, it's to spend as much time with your parents as possible and take care of them because you never know how much time you're going to have left.

The photo of her above is from her much younger years, but it's one of my favorites. It shows what a beautiful and loving woman she was, inside and out. She was always a fun-loving and happy lady, too.

Happy Birthday Mom, I love you and I miss you.
