On October 24th, 1995, The Smashing Pumpkins released their expansive magnum opus, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.  The band’s history stretches roughly a quarter-century, but the release of this double album in the aftermath of the grunge explosion undoubtedly stands as their high water mark.

The album had 28 tracks, including five singles: “Bullet With Butterfly Wings”, “1979”, “Zero”, “Tonight, Tonight” and “Thirty-Three”.  Today, Billy is the last Pumpkin standing.  Mellon Collie contributors James Iha, D’Arcy Wretzky and Jimmy Chamberlain are long gone.  The band has had a breakup, reunion, multiple lineup changes, and a few new albums since its 90’s heyday.

Corgan was 28 when Mellon Collie was released.  Now 48, 2015 saw Corgan and the present day Pumpkins on the road with Marilyn Manson.  There have been rumblings of another Pumpkins album coming out in early 2016.  We shall see.
