A famous Iowa City restaurant is planning an expansion that could take it across the nation and beyond. The owner of The Hamburg Inn wants to open up to 30 more locations around the state of Iowa in the next year.

Not all of those locations would be full-scale restaurants. Many would be called "Hamburg Inn Express" restaurants, which would be smaller and have quicker service. Some may just serve their famous pie shakes and coffee.

But the plans don't stop there. The owner would like to take the restaurant overseas to Asia and Europe where it would be called "American President's Diner", named for all the presidents that have visited the original Hamburg Inn site. With all the expansion plans, the owner wants customers to know that the Iowa City location will remain exactly the same.
