Guns N’ Roses’ Axl Rose Offers Unique Response to Danish Giraffe Killing Controversy
Various news outlets have reported on a controversial decision by a Danish zoo to kill a healthy giraffe before performing an autopsy and dismembering the animal in front of spectators. Despite mass public outcry to save the giraffe, the cause was lost and the giraffe’s meat was fed to zoo lions after the animal was euthanized. In a strange and somewhat confusing twist, Axl Rose offered some unique comments on the story via his Twitter account.
The male giraffe, named Marius, was killed by the Copenhagen Zoo to avoid potential inbreeding. “Our giraffes are part of an international breeding program, which has a purpose of ensuring a sound and healthy population of giraffes,” Bengt Holst, scientific director at Copenhagen Zoo, tells CNN. “If we just sterilize him, he will take up space for more genetically valuable giraffes.” After the giraffe was put down, its autopsy and dismemberment was performed outside in view of the public, which consisted of children along with adults.
Animal lovers attempted to save the giraffe, with more than 27,000 signatures collected by an online petition. Marius’ death has sparked a great deal of online conversation, but none quite like that of Axl Rose. The Guns N’ Roses singer tweeted:
Just enjoying the lion's share of some tasty baby Giraffica sliders! Mmmmm! What'll them crazy Danes think of next!

Axl then added a little more to the conversation with a Twitlonger post:
But seriously, let me get this straight… The Danes killed a 2yr old baby giraffe, chopped it up n’ fed him to the lions (allegedly in front of kids) to avoid inbreeding rather than find a place for it. Maybe this is a big problem over there I don’t know but I’m not getting how this deters siblings n’ various other assorted Danish family members from fuckin’ each other?! J/k ☺
Followed by one last Tweet on the matter:
Lemme get a Giraffica, a homemade cherry Danish, some o' them pre-fried Pepper's… Oh! n' a liter of cola!

The normally private Axl Rose has been strangely public lately, recently typing up a comedic response to the Red Hot Chili Peppers Super Bowl controversy. Maybe Axl is embracing a new identity as a regular jokester. If that’s the case, stay tuned for more odd Axl and his sense of humor.
