Geoff Tate and his former bandmates in Queensryche settled their legal differences earlier this year, and as Tate plays his final trek under the Queensryche moniker, the singer now has a new plan for his musical future.

As part of the dealings, Tate acquired the ability to promote Queensryche’s epic 1988 concept album, ‘Operation: Mindcrime.’ Thus, moving forward, he’s decided to use Operation: Mindcrime as the name of his band.

Tate had been touring with rock vets Rudy Sarzo, Simon Wright, Randy Gane and Kelly Gray as his own version of Queensryche and the same lineup will continue on as Operation: Mindcrime. The group plan to start working on a new project in September.

Tate revealed that he’s actually working on a trilogy, explaining, “I tried to reduce the story and eventually got it down to 37 ideas that need representing to complete the story. I knew that one record wouldn’t cover it and that it would have to be a trilogy. It’s an exciting project and one we’d like to release sometime the first part of next spring.”

Tate adds that story and concept albums will play a big role in his future, and he adds, “It is so refreshing to be able to concentrate on the many stories and ideas that I have been working on with no boundaries or restrictions. With the newly-named band, I think fans will continue to enjoy the music we create and perform together and hope they share this new musical journey with us.”

Meanwhile, fans can enjoy the final run of ‘Queensryche Starring Geoff Tate — The Farewell Tour’ dates. The trek is currently underway with dates booked through the end of August. Check out his itinerary here.
