Free Doughnut? Don’t Mind If I Do

It's here! It's the day where I take some time to recognize and honor the out-of-this-world perfection that is... the doughnut! It's National Doughnut Day. And as if it's not difficult enough for me to ignore Dunkin Donuts on my way to work, today they offered a free donut with the purchase of a drink.

Every year, the first Friday of June marks the celebration of the doughnut. This tradition was started in 1938 by The Salvation Army. Almost 80 years later, National Doughnut Day has become a pretty big deal, with doughnut chains across the country giving away free doughnuts. I said FREE doughnuts! Are you f%#king kidding me?

Dunkin Donuts on Blairs Ferry Road in Cedar Rapids is pretty much on my way to work. So every Monday through Friday, it's a battle of will. I pull out of the driveway thinking to myself, "I'm gonna be good today. I'm going to eat healthy." But I swear Dunkin Donuts includes chunks of magnets in their donuts because I get pulled to their drive thru about 80% of the time. Doughnuts are my crack. Someday you might see me under an overpass rubbing doughnut sugar on my gums like a degenerate junkie.
