It seems the past few months have brought a rash of violent crime to Cedar Rapids. But it's also true that the City of Five Seasons is surrounded by other communities that are statistically much more dangerous places to live.

There have been several significant changes in this mug-shot lineup since our last report a year ago on the most dangerous cities in Iowa. For example, Waterloo topped our list at #1 in last year's article, but in this survey the town has slipped to #6.

This report is based on the findings and opinions of Roadsnacks.net. The survey takes many factors in determining this list, including violent crime statistics and property crime statistics.

Based on these criteria, here are the top five most dangerous cities to live in Iowa.

5. Des Moines, IA: While the capitol of Iowa has seen property crime rates decrease modestly in the past few years, it is still statistically high enough to place it at number five on the list of most dangerous places to live in Iowa.

4. Davenport, IA: I lived in the Quad Cities for over a year in 2015 and while I was never a victim of crime, I quickly learned which neighborhoods to steer clear of to avoid trouble. In 2015 residents faced a 1 in 141 chance of being victim of crime in Davenport.

3. Clinton, IA: Just over 26,000 people claim residence in Clinton, so it's sad to report that violent crime has increase a whopping 32% in recent years. Fortunately, property crime decreased from 2013-2015.

2. Ft. Dodge, IA: 150 miles northwest of Cedar Rapids on Highway 20, Ft. Dodge ranks high in property crime for a town with 24,000 people.

1. Keokuk, IA: The city where the Des Moines River connects with the mighty Mississippi. With a violent crime increase of 8% over the past few years, Keokuk residents face a 1 in 98 chance of falling victim to a violent crime. It now ranks as the #1 most dangerous town in Iowa.
