Cedar Rapids native Zach Johnson was one shot off the lead on the 16th hole during today's fourth and final round of the John Deere Classic. Just as he was about to putt, an explosion literally caused him to jump into the air.

Later during the CBS telecast, it was announced that someone on a boat (I assume the one that drives away) shot off an air cannon and that he does it quite often. Today, the authorities were going to be waiting for him when he made landfall. Rightfully so. Apparently he thinks it's funny, which proves how juvenile, immature, and clueless this guy is. I was watching on television at the time and it scared me. I can't imagine how Zach and the hundreds of people watching near the green must have felt.

Would Zach have birdied the hole and moved into a first-place tie if not for the boom breaking his concentration? Did it not affect the putt that followed at all? We'll never know and congrats to Jordan Spieth who won the tournament in a playoff over Tom Gillis. You may recall that Jordan was in Cedar Rapids Monday to play in the Zach Johnson Foundation Classic. He's the world's 2nd-ranked player, but likely not for long. Jordan makes the trip to the British Open looking for a third straight major championship and is already the first golfer to win four tourneys before the British Open in 15 years. The last to do it? Tiger Woods.
