The Downtown Farmers Market in Cedar Rapids is always an excellent source for summer fun and entertainment. Every other Saturday morning or so from June through September, you can venture downtown to support vendors in your local community and browse/purchase their wares. (Save room for a breakfast burrito from "The Salsa Guy"!) This year's official market dates have been announced and you can see the schedule and information here.

A really unique element that's been added to the event this year, on its 10th anniversary, is "Market After Dark". Yes, a nighttime installment of this annual tradition, on August 29th from 7:30pm-Midnight. Add to it the mix of the usual downtown nightlife patrons, and this is sure to bring a whole new level of excitement to downtown that evening and a great option for those who want their social fix beyond the proverbial "bar scene".

Additionally, NewBo City Market in downtown Cedar Rapids will begin its own series of early-evening summer farmer's markets. Click here for their schedule and details of other markets around Eastern Iowa this summer.

I hope to see you this season for either the traditional Saturday morning markets, or for Market After Dark. By the way, July 4th is a Saturday and a farmer's market day this year so if you start early, you can make it a day-long celebration downtown, culminating with the Thomas Dostal Developers Freedom Festival Concert at the McGrath Amphitheatre, where you'll have the best seat in town for the Freedom Festival fireworks.
