When it comes to the Iowa Boys High School State Basketball Tournament, Iowa City West almost always seems to have the magic. The ending of the 4A semifinal game will be remembered forever.

Mississippi Valley Conference foes Iowa City West and Cedar Falls were dead even as Cedar Falls inbounded the ball in the final seconds. What followed was a steal, a missed jumper, the most improbable tip-in "throw" you've ever seen, and complete and total bedlam. The son of former Hawkeye, Brad Lohaus, was the hero. The 6'7" Tanner Lohaus couldn't do this again if he tried... maybe a hundred times:

The win sends Iowa City West to the 4A title game for the 4th time in five years. They won the previous three. They'll take on West Des Moines Valley tonight at approximately 8:05. Valley defeated Pleasant Valley this afternoon in double overtime 50-48.

Tonight will be a night to showcase the Mississippi Valley Conference. The 3A title game will include Cedar Rapids Xavier, who will play in the title game for the first time, against fellow conference foe Dubuque Wahlert at 6:05.

Good luck to Iowa City West and, with apologies to Wahlert, to Xavier. We'll be cheering for the Saints.
