Whether you need a second--or third, or fourth job to supplement your income, or you're just looking for a summer gig, we could all probably use a little extra cash. So what are some simple ways to get it?

It helps to take stock of your own skills, starting with the ones you have already developed in your current work situation or personal life. For example, a lot of my co-workers, past and present, have turned the skills we use at the radio station into side jobs as mobile DJs at weddings and dances. On the other hand, if you're like me and not very persuasive, you might not be suited for a job in sales.

A recent article suggested several ways to pick up extra income and some don't require much skill or extra effort at all.

    Participate in a Focus Group

I once did this and I think I made about $50 for two hours of my time. Not bad. Look for these opportunities across the internet and you'll find them easily.

  • 2

Sell Health and Beauty Products or Cosmetics

You see these all the time on your Facebook newsfeed. Think Avon or ItWorks. They usually require an initial investment on your part, but if you've seen your friends do it, you know it's probably a reliable option. Yes, men can sell it too.

    Use Your Pre-Existing Skills Independently

As I mentioned, many of my radio colleagues do this gig on the side at dances, wedding receptions and parties. If you're handy, you can offer your services to paint, mow lawns, clean houses or do home repair and impovement services. You can do this through social media and rely on word of mouth. Put your name on sites like Craig's List, Angie's List or submit a classified ad to the newspaper. Become a vendor at the Farmer's Market. This is a great way to turn a hobby into cash.

    Sell Your Stuff

It's almost garage sale season and the easiest, most surprising way to make money is to simply unload stuff you already have. Old books, CDs, clothes, exercise equipment or anything else taking up space in your house could go to a good new home and put a little extra green in your pocket (and keep you from feeling like a borderline hoarder).

    Be a Lifeguard

If you like to be outside (and who doesn't in the summer?) you could take a job at one of the city's pools, parks or golf courses and get paid to work outdoors. You'll probably also have some summer fun while doing so.
