Over 1,000 Chicago Cubs baseball fans waited patiently this morning for a chance to view the 2016 World Series trophy on display at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena

Die hard Cubs fans arrived as early as 4:30 a.m. to be one of the first in line to see the Championship trophy.

With Cubs officials expecting a large turnout, they arrived and opened the display a full 45 minutes early of the scheduled 8:00 a.m. showing. While the weather was mild for late January, fans really appreciated the gesture, allowing early birds to cut short their waiting time, and give the later arrivals time to view the trophy as well.

Fans had the chance to snap a photo with the trophy, but it was a strictly "hands-off" experience. The trophy is encased in a square glass cube to keep is safe and smudge-free.

Following it's early appearance in Cedar Rapids, the trophy will now journey to the Cedar Valley Sportsplex, 300 Jefferson St. in Waterloo from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. today.

Cubs fans in the great baseball state of Iowa have now had their moment of glory with the World Championship trophy and can bask in the memories of the most incredible season of modern-day baseball.

For White Sox, Cardinals and Twins fans, well...spring training begins in about 30 days.
