It appears we have another case of arson on our hands.

On Friday, a home located in Northeast Cedar Rapids on the 1600 block of Hollywood Boulevard caught on fire. CBS 2 reports that Cedar Rapids police are now confirming that the fire was intentionally set. Two firefighters were injured while trying to control the blaze and the family's cat was found dead inside the home. The family of four was luckily not home at the time, but they now have been displaced because of this cruel act. This is the second confirmed case of arson in the same week.

Last week, an apartment building caught fire off of Blairs Ferry Road in Cedar Rapids. Fire crews battled the fire at the 12-unit Boston House Apartments, while police officers helped people escape out of a window on the 3rd floor of the complex. Three people were sent to hospitals for smoke inhalation, nine residents from seven apartment units were displaced, and the building suffered moderate damage to a rear entry stairwell and hallway, according to CBS 2. Investigators confirmed that ignitable liquid was poured in the apartments first and second floor stairwells.

Anyone with information, and those with surveillance video or photographs of the area, are encouraged to contact the Fire Department at (319) 286-5200. Let get this arsonist of the streets.
