They'll be another name to watch at this year's PGA Championship golf tournament. Sean McCarty. The eastern Iowa native has qualified for the prestigious major PGA event after finishing second at a qualifying event in California.

The top 20 finishers in the event at the PGA Professional Championship at the Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Club in Seaside, California made the cut. McCarty hung close to the leader despite the fact that the winds played havoc with the course and ended up two shots off the overall lead. Still, good enough to gain entrance into one of golf's major events, the PGA Championship.

What makes it even more special for the 45-year-old McCarty was that his son was his caddie. He'll also make the trip to the PGA Championship as well. This won't be McCarty's first time at a major PGA tournament. He also played the 2003 U.S. Open at Olympia Fields in Illinois. He just missed the 36 hole cut after shooting a 69 on day two.

McCarty has been the Iowa PGA Section Player of the Year eight times between 2007 and 2017. He is a 1995 graduate of the University of Iowa and is the current golf pro at Brown Deer Golf Club in Coralville.
