Cooper’s Mill Hotel In Cedar Rapids May Soon Close For Good

One of Cedar Rapids' oldest hotels may never reopen. Cooper's Mill Hotel and Restaurant shut down in preparation for the flood of 2016. It now will likely be part of a planned flood protection system.

The city is recommending a $5 million buyout of the property. The Cedar Rapids City Council can approve the buyout at its October 11th meeting. If that happens, the hotel will likely never reopen.

Cooper's Mill was built in 1972 along the west bank of the Cedar River. It sustained major damage in the flood of 2008. Officials with the hotel and the city have been discussing a buyout since spring.
