Colony Inn Restaurant in Amana Being Reinvented

The new owners still plan to sell food, but it won't be the main focus.

Millstream Brewing Company in Amana, the oldest and largest microbrewery in Iowa, has purchased the Colony Inn Restaurant on Main Street in Amana with big plans for a renovation and makeover. Millstream plans to open the Millstream Brau Haus in early fall.

According to Millstream's Facebook page, the Millstream Brau Haus will have German-style "Bierhalle" foods and brats from the Amana Meat Shop and Smokehouse. Plans also include 20 beers on tap.

What does that mean for the brewery tap room? It will stay open and live music performances will continue outside, at least for now.

Millstream made the announcements on social media and even recruited volunteers to help demolish the second floor inside in preparation for a new bierhalle room.

This has to be some exciting news for Amana and the colonies, especially when an Amana company is the one leading the charge.
