There are tons of Cubs & Cardinals fans in eastern Iowa, but the tables have turned in the rivalry. The passing of the torch, if you will, occurred last October when the Cubs knocked the Cardinals out of the playoffs in the National League Divisional Series. The Cardinals had the bragging rights for a long time, but it appears the Cubs may have the upper hand now, and possibly for a few years to come.  With the Cubs leading the N.L. Central by a whopping 10.5 games, the Cardinals are visiting Wrigley Field for a 3-game series this week...

  • Tuesday, 6/21 - St. Louis 4   Chicago 3 (Final)

I've been a Cubs fan since 1984.  That year, they were one game away from making the World Series... then they lost 3 in a row to the San Diego Padres.  Same thing happened in 2003... one game away, and this time the Florida Marlins took 3 straight to break my heart.

It would be silly for Cubs fans to get mouthy around Cardinals fans.  Sure, it's fine to enjoy having the upper hand, but the Cardinals have 11 World Series appearance (and won 6 of them) since the Cubs last made the Fall Classic in 1945.  The last championship for the Cubbies... it's ingrained in my brain. 1908. If this Cubs team doesn't advance to the World Series this year, it's a disappointment.
