Many of us dream of one day making it big in our chosen profession in a metropolis like Los Angeles or Chicago. But we often know we've got to start a bit smaller, and often that someplace to start becomes a place to stay.

If you're in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, you're in the best place to start a career in our state, according to a new study by the website Zippia. They made their findings based on 831 U.S. cities, with a minimum population threshold of 50,000.  Population, unemployment, percentage of milennials in the population and cost of living were the factors used to determine the rankings. Overall, the top five in the United States were:

  • Fargo, North Dakota
  • Madison, Wisconsin
  • Midland, Texas
  • Lincoln, Nebraska
  • Columbia, Missouri

Another midwest city, Duluth, Minnesota came in at #10 overall, so the midwest was well-represented.

With Cedar Rapids atop the rankings in Iowa, you can see where other cities in the Hawkeye State ranked here and view the map below to see what kind of company we're in nationwide.
