The Cedar River's flood waters are receding and the downtown, New Bo and Czech Village areas are all getting back to order. Business people are returning. The shops, stores and restaurants are re-opening. It's a beautiful thing.

I've chosen to highlight five random places that are open for business and are welcoming back customers into neighborhoods that were just last week known as the "flood zone".

The Paramount Theatre: welcomes Elvis Costello tonight (Oct. 3) Ghosts and Popestar Wednesday (Oct. 5) and Get The Led Out Sunday (Oct. 9). Those are just a few of the many shows they have on schedule. 123 Third Avenue SE

Need Pizza: bakes a great pie and can have one ready for you in minutes. Great place to dine in for lunch or dinner, or just stop in for a drink. 207 2nd Ave SE

Next Page Books:  This cozy little nook offers a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction in a warm and inviting environment.1105 Third Street SE

Czech Village: This non-profit organization is the backbone of the Czech Village community and a valuable resource for the latest information as things return to normal.

Black Sheep Social Club: Head Chef Joe Dooley invites you to dine at this elegant new restaurant located at 600 1st Street SE.  You can make a reservation online or do it old school by calling 319-200-7070.
