The Cedar Rapids Police Department tried to stop a 47-year old man for a registration violation this morning. Unfortunately, he didn't stop and crashed into a City vehicle, causing that driver serious injuries.

Cedar Rapids Police report that around 8:39 this morning, they tried to stop a red truck near 10th Street and 8th Avenue SW. The driver tried to elude & went through the Hawkeye Oil parking lot and then went eastbound on 8th Avenue SW. He finally ended up traveling at a high rate of speed & the Officer witnessed him run a stop sign at 15th Avenue and 9th Street SW and another at 16th Avenue and 9th Street SW. The red truck then struck the side of a City of Cedar Rapids Water Department vehicle that was eastbound on 16th Avenue SW.

Following the crash the City vehicle rolled, ejecting the 35-year old male driver who was seriously injured. He was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The suspect sustained non life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

The accident remains under investigation and the names of those involved have not been released. Charges are pending.
