A 65-year old restaurant chain has plans to open a total of five Iowa locations, four of them in eastern Iowa.

Harold's Chicken is based in Chicago and is opening sometime around the middle of September at 316 East Burlington St. in Iowa City. A downtown Cedar Rapids location at 200 First Ave. is scheduled to open late in September. They also plan locations for Waterloo, Davenport, and Des Moines.

In a news release Gerald Seals, CEO of Harold's Iowa for Harold's Chicken says "The new locations are going to be the biggest, nicest Harold's of them all. And when people take a bite of this chicken, they're going to be tasting it just like it was being made in the 1950s."

Seals now lives in North Liberty, but "As a kid from Chicago that moved to Iowa, I wanted to see a bit of Chicago make its way to Iowa. No matter how many brands try to make fried chicken, Harold's is a traditional business who knows how to make chicken better than anyone else."

According to their Facebook page, the Cedar Rapids Harold's is a 2900 square foot restaurant with seating for 75 people. It will be located in the space formerly occupied by Milio's Sandwiches. This photo from early last week shows construction is well underway.
