The St. Louis Cardinals are on pace to win 110 games this season.  This past weekend, the Cardinals once again proved that they are the best team in Major League Baseball, sweeping a 3-game series against the young, upstart Chicago Cubs.  The Cards widened their National League Central lead to 9 over Pittsburgh and 11½ over the Cubs.

Important players like Adam Wainwright, Matt Holiday and Matt Adams have suffered serious injuries this season, but the Cardinals keep rolling along.  It looks like the Cardinals will cruise to their third straight N.L. Central Division title, and make a run for their third World Series win in the past decade.

Not even their recent "hacking" controversy has slowed them down, although it does lead me to compare them to the NFL's New England Patriots.  The Patriots have been accused of winning dirty, stretching the rules... but their 4 Super Bowl trophies aren't going anywhere.  The "hacking" story might of put a little blemish on the Cardinals, but it hasn't slowed them down on the field one bit.  As a Cubs fan, it pains me to say it... the Cardinals are the gold standard.  Wait 'til next year... again.
