I don't think it's going too far to call Chris Cornell a living legend.  The Soundgarden frontman, who turns 52 next week, put on a hell of a show at Davenport's Adler Theatre on Tuesday night (7/12).  So even though I'm going on about 4 hours of sleep this morning, I'm so happy I decided to make the 90-minute drive!

As Cornell mentioned during the show, his tour in support of his 2015 solo album, Higher Truth has taken him all over the world.  He'll finish up his time on the road later this month after a few shows on the west coast and Canada.  Those lucky enough to be at Adler Theatre Tuesday night were treated to an impressive range of tunes that featured Cornell on acoustic guitars (on one song he put down the guitar and sang over a piano recording).  Of course, every song featured that signature voice, one of the best in rock history.  It was a treat to hear these songs and his singing in such an intimate venue.  On several occasions, Cornell was joined on stage by a talented guy named Bryan who contributed mandolin, cello and keyboards on different tunes.

Quite simply, I was blown away.  You had a healthy dose of Soundgarden ("Fell on Black Days", "Rusty Cage", "Blow Up The Outside World"), Audioslave ("I Am The Highway", "Be Yourself"), Temple of the Dog ("Hunger Strike", "Call Me A Dog") and a healthy dose of his solo stuff ("Seasons", "Sunshower", "Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart").  He sprinkled in cool covers from Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Prince and the Beatles ("A Day in the Life"... holy sh*tballs).  The crowd was probably just shy of a sellout, but was very impressed and energetic... especially for a Tuesday night.  I'd say the average age was probably late 30's, but you saw teenagers all the way up to 60-somethings enjoying it equally.  Whatever expectations I had going in were far exceeded.  Now I really want to see my first ever Soundgarden show!
