Golf season in Iowa is a fleeting thing. Harsh winters and unpredictable springs and falls leaves little time to go out and hack away. Throw in a job, marriage and a kid, and it leaves you with very few opportunities to play. I finally played my first round of 2015 this past Monday at Cedar Ridge Golf Course in Charles City.

This outing had its advantages... it was a 4-person best shot, meaning you and 3 other friends have 4 chances to hit something resembling a decent shot. I played with 3 Waterloo pals - Ken, Lewis & Niki. One question: When did it become so physically difficult to play golf? It took me about 30 minutes of stretching before I was ready to swing.

Overall, I was pretty pleased with my play. Our team finished with a 70 (-2). The winning group finished with a 58 (-14)! With all due respect to my playing partners, when I'm the best player in the group you are not going to have the best score. However, I bet we did finish first in two categories: 1) Profanity, 2) Alcohol snuck onto the course.

(L-R) Bill Hahn and his pals, Ken and Lewis.
