I’m a cynical, hesitant bastard so I was very late to the party with Twitter. The social networking service exploded onto the scene back in 2006, but I’m the guy who didn’t transfer from cassettes to compact discs until 1996. I just got on Twitter about a year ago.  Reports say the service has more than 500 million users today. It had its first day of trading on the New York Stock Exchange back in 2013. Yeah, Twitter has done ok for itself.

I rarely tweet because, quite frankly, I’m not that interesting.  But I do enjoy checking in with my favorite bands, comedians, actors and journalists on a daily basis.  Here are a few of my favorite follows on Twitter…

  • Norm Mac Donald (@normmacdonald) – The comedian and SNL alum uses Twitter differently than anybody else I’ve seen.  He bypasses the 140-character limit by telling stories over the course of several tweets, one right after another.  He’s shared epic stories of Bob Dylan and Eddie Murphy in this way.
  • The Onion (@TheOnion) – They call themselves “America’s Finest News Source”.  It’s actually purely satirical.  It gives me a daily chuckle.  Their tweets allow you to click on a link to read the full ridiculous story.  A recent tweet: “God Shoots Himself While Cleaning Gun”.
  • Eli Braden (@EliBraden) – I hadn’t heard of this comedian before Twitter.  He has around 70,000 followers.  A recent tweet: “If Tom Cruise keeps doing those massive Botox injections around his eyes it's gonna be Vision Impossible”.
  • KRNA (@KRNAradio) – Iowa’s Alternative on Twitter.  Follow us.
