It's not big government we should fear. It's big business. These multi-national corporations wield a shatload of power and we're just "lemmings packed into shiny metal boxes" like The Police used to say.

This story from last month pissed me off. IBM strolled into Dubuque a couple years ago promising great jobs and all sorts of utopian greatness for the citizens of the Tri-State Area. We'll bring hundreds of high-paying jobs and put Dubuque into a state-of-the-art energy use monitoring system and it'll be super fantastic, they said.

They came. They hired. They pulled out.

A modern-day contraception method via big brother.

Here's the story from Bloomburg. Screw IBM. Don't get the hopes of a city up only to bolt in the middle of the night. It's like the Cleveland Browns middle of the night dash.

The corporate suck-ups in charge of spreading the word on downsizing [just before they themselves are downsized] call it "resource action." What the hell is that? Cue George Clooney...

Companies [big AND small, let's face it] have us by the nardlies. No wonder we don't show any allegiance. They certainly don't exhibit any for us. Sure, there are some loyal companies out there protecting and rewarding their workforce. But this IBM stunt takes it to another level. Dubuque should've smelled a rat when this house of cards was being built.

Some would say those workers should be happy the shiny boxes came at all. I say it's too bad there wasn't a "no-flee" 20-year agreement in place. Those don't exist. Maybe they should. You want to bring your Dog 'N Pony show to our town? Sign right here, Dr. Corp.
