It’s a shame we have to do this every year, but he was that important.  Every year around this time, many music fans remember a guy that struggled with heroin addiction and depression.  Oh yeah, and he also was at the forefront of ushering in a much needed sea change in popular music in the early 1990’s.  Kurt Cobain shot and killed himself in April 1994 (at least, I think he did... some say Courtney set up a murder).  His body was discovered by an electrician on April 8th.  The coroner’s report estimated the date of death to be April 5th.  So it’s that time of year again.  22 years goes by so fast.

I was 14 when Cobain and Nirvana exploded onto the scene with “Smells Like Teen Spirit”.  I was 17 when he killed himself.  Those are pretty formative years, basically my high school years.  Here and then gone in a flash.  So quick.  “Better to burn out than fade away”, as Neil Young once said.  Before Nirvana, I grew up with MTV… I remember a lot of Billy Idol, Michael Jackson, Whitesnake, and Motley Crue.  Nothing against those artists/bands, but thank God for the jolt that Nirvana gave the world… and me.
