When it comes to drinking a cocktail, you can't go wrong with a Bloody Mary. Party starter, hangover cure, breakfast in a glass -- it's tough to beat a well-made Bloody Mary. And I do stress well-made.

The Bloody Mary can seem like a simple cocktail, but people find a lot of ways to screw it up. They don't have enough vodka. They have too much vodka. They skimp on the extra ingredients. They go overboard and throw everything but the kitchen sink in. The perfect Bloody Mary is a happy medium.

Here's my idea of a perfect Bloody Mary:

  1. Don't skimp on the vodka. It's a cocktail; I expect to taste some alcohol.
  2. Real tomato juice, please. Mixes don't kill it for me, but I think they disrupt the taste.
  3. Regular salt on the rim
  4. A pickle and olives for the added flavor
  5. Worcestershire
  6. Horseradish

So with all of that being said, I want to know: Where's the best Bloody Mary in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area?
