Believe It Or Not MTV Has a Non-Pop VMA Category [VIDEO]

Nikki Minaj showed us her backside and her simmering Miley rage. Kanye talked about the past and "the Taylor Swift incident." Taylor herself won more awards with her famous mixed look of glee and surprise. At least that's what the afterglow videos indicate from last night's MTV VMAs. The Rock Category was all Alt/Alt-Pop with Fall Out Boy's "Uma Thurman" taking top honors.

Hozier, Florence + The Machine and Walk The Moon were also in the grouping. The one that stood out for me was "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High" by the Arctic Monkeys.

Lorde, 30STM, Foo Fighters and Coldplay have taken top honors in the category the last 4 years. Limp Bizit and KORN won around the turn of the century and Aerosmith and Metallica took home victories in the category in the 90s. A lot of "chart change" has occurred since then, but one thing remains: The "M" was taken out of MTV a long time ago.
