I’m Valerie Hiatt and I’ve been rockin’ the KRNA workforce for over a decade. Radio has always been in my blood, I may very well be descended from Sesame Street’s Yip Yip aliens. When I was a kid and other girls were playing with Barbies, I was spending quality time on the farm with my Fisher Price tape recorder spinning up my own radio station. Now I’m doing big-kid radio and thankfully no one made me grow up for it! I spent my formative years in WORSHington, Iowa and have my BA in English from the University of Iowa. I enjoy computer networking, writing, video games, streaming TV, being a sci-fi/fantasy geek, concerts and am not ashamed that I love to knit; my lace has skulls on it. I am quite happily single, living in Cedar Rapids with two feline fur-children.

Another Rainy … Well, Everything
It feels like it's been raining so much here in Eastern Iowa lately. Yesterday I just sat and watched it pour down, today is overcast and it looks like there's more rain coming later in the week. I have certain songs that I like to listen to when it rains, most of them mention rain...
My Jam of the Week – The Pretty Reckless
I admit I don't keep up on listening to full albums anymore. Shame me if you will. We play the singles, I have my mp3s and usually that's fine. However, recently a friend of mine was playing The Pretty Reckless' "Going to Hell" album and I have to say I am in love with it...
Kid Rocker
I played a lot of music when I was younger, I tried to learn everything I could. I wrote music, learned piano, guitar, clarinet, alto sax, voice lessons, heck I even played hand bells at church (being the goth chick at church was pretty amusing) and worked on an arrangement of Gn'R's "November Rain"...
Lovin’ Some Lizzy
So admission time, I listen to more than just the music we play on KRNA. I'm such a music slut; I'll listen to just about anything and probably find something I like. The cool part about being diverse is that sometimes you get some pretty kickass crossover stuff...
It’s 4/20, Happy Zombie Jesus Day!
Happy April 20th! And it just happens to be Zombie Jesus Day (or Easter to the culturally challenged). Dance with Mary Jane, eat some tasty ham and chocolate bunnies, then veg out with a movie to celebrate!
Need help finding the perfect zombie flick to honor the re-animation of Christ...
Rockin’ it Live
People ask me all the time, "what's your favorite <insert whatever here>"? It's so difficult to come up with top favorites since they always change. However one of those has always been super easy for me. Bands I want to see before they die? We...
Hello Snow!
When I was a kid, snow was the most awesome thing ever. You got to stay home from school if there was a ton of it, you could make forts and have snowball fights, sled and freeze just about every body part you had off and you didn't care; it was fun...
History of Black Friday
I am a question person, I'm always curious about whatever random thing happens to have flown through my head. Today I was wondering, where did the concept of Black Friday come from? Here's a great article on the history of Black Friday.

Arctic Invasion!
I check the weather… a lot. Since we live in Iowa, whether we realize it or not, we base a lot of our lives around it. When I jump over to NOAA (since it looks way warmer than it should outside), I see the following weather statement:
