Parenting is hard work. I think I underestimated that. I thought I waited until I was prepared, responsible and a little older (mid-thirties). Turns out that every step of the way is a challenge. Rewarding, but a challenge nonetheless. My son is now potty training. Oh good God.

WebMD says that most children are ready to start potty training between 22 and 30 months. My kid is 33 months. Are we horrible parents? Is my kid destined for a life of falling behind, being overwhelmed by standard human functioning, ultimately ending up on the streets with a poopy diaper? According to WebMD, I guess not. They state, "every child is different. Toilet training usually becomes a long and frustrating process if you try to start it before your child is ready."

My wife deserves a lot of the credit. She's provided the calm encouragement to my son as he goes through this training, a process that WebMD says takes around 3 months on average. I provide the commentary... like, "Hey, make sure that poop doesn't get on the carpet!" And "Let's just keep a diaper on him until he's 8."

We've had a few accidents.  I thought we had #1 (peeing) down, but last night he let loose in the laundry room for some reason.  With #2 (poo), I've been calling him "The Ted Williams of Pooping" because he's batting about .400.

How can you get mad at this guy for having a few accidents? This is my son.  In this picture, I think he's listening to his Daddy on KRNA... obviously thoroughly unimpressed with his father's DJ skills
