Have you ever been to Iowa's "most iconic" diner?

When you think of classic Iowa diners, you probably think about Hamburg Inn No. 2 in Iowa City. Well, it was actually another Iowa City diner that was recognized as the best in Iowa! According to an article from the Iowa City Press-Citizen, Bluebird Diner has been recognized as the "most iconic" in our state.

A recent post by Reader's Digest took a look at some of the "memorable and delicious" diners across America. The publication used "customer ratings, TripAdvisor scores, and local gossip" to determine the best one in each state. Here in Iowa, that's Bluebird Diner! The article reads:

"Made with locally sourced ingredients, what’s on the menu at this Iowa City joint is classic country cooking with an unexpected twist. Favorites include the Krakatoa omelet stuffed with bacon, jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, and cilantro-lime cream cheese."

Bluebird Diner first opened in Iowa City back in 2008. The restaurant prides itself on its excellent service, cozy atmosphere, specialty coffee, and delicious food. Like every good diner, Bluebird serves all-day breakfast, as well as lunch and dinner.

The breakfast menu at Bluebird Diner consists of classic favorites like biscuits & gravy, eggs benedict, chicken fried steak, pancakes, Belgian waffles, cinnamon roll French toast, and a large selection of omelettes. There's customer favorite the Krakatoa, which was mentioned by Reader's Digest, but other options include the Rajun Cajun, Slammin’ Salmon, Popeye, Mile High, and Vesuvius. The Vesuvius contains Mediterranean spiced ground beef, red onion, red bell pepper, tomato, feta cheese, harissa, and tzatziki. YUM.

As far as lunch and dinner go, customers can choose from various burgers, sandwiches, salads, and entrees, like Ratatouille Prima Vera and Shrimp n’ Gritz. Bluebird also has all sorts of rotating specials, so there's always something new for diners to try. Every dish they post on social media looks AMAZING.

Bluebird Diner in Iowa City is open Sunday through Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. There are also two Bluebird Cafe locations: one in Solon and one in North Liberty. You can check out their menus HERE.
