A Cedar Rapids Beautification Project That Dalmations Would Love

Kids love to paint. Cedar Rapids fire hydrants are rusty.

When I was a kid, Dubuque gave the children of the city a challenge: Make our hydrants your canvas. Create the best design you can. The kids put their ideas on paper, then the city voted in the best. The finalists were chosen and the hydrants were painted. There were some really cool designs....and the city had instant beautification project - powered by the "next generation."

Kids could take a break from the digital screen and get out there this spring and do some dandy designs!
