PR Newswire reports that just 3% of those making New Year's weight resolutions succeed. So, eat up and shut down....those annual pledges to yourself.

One year, I made it a goal to avoid the national average of 5-7 lbs. of weight gain from Halloween to New Year's Day. Three weeks in, the discipline waned and I went back to late-night snacking...or as I sometimes call it, "The Unstoppable Momentum of Suppertime into Late Night." Shark's Feeding Frenzy all right.

So, in 2014, maybe I'll just choose Valentine's Day as the launching point of great new habits. Just as we'll go all out on New Year's Eve with a caloric binge, this Feb. 15 can be a post-chocolate kick start to a new me! Huzzah!
