Thank you Dunkin’ Donuts on Blairs Ferry for making this day tolerable.  Up at 5:45am to shovel the 6 inches of snowfall off my driveway, I was sure this day was destined for disaster.  Little did I know that a little cup o’ joe could produce a miracle!  I feel more awake now than I have in weeks, maybe months.  So less than a week in to 2015, I have found my New Year’s resolution.  Cut the crap with the whole “exercise 3 times a week” stuff.  When sluggish, drink coffee.

I’ve never been a big coffee drinker, but I think getting through this Iowa winter might require me to pick up the vice.  I’ve talked for years about trying to eat healthier and exercise more, attempting to feel alert and alive naturally.  Nonsense.  Just guzzle a cup of coffee.  As I’ve learned today, it’s a great shortcut.  I’ve actually done nothing positive, but I feel fantastic.  Who gets the recommended 8 hours of sleep a night?  Not me.  But I’m not going to sweat it anymore.

“It is inhumane, in my opinion, to force people who have a genuine medical need for coffee to wait in line behind people who apparently view it as some kind of recreational activity.”
