$6 million in Iowa taxpayer funds is still being earmarked for the new home of the "Field of Dreams" TV series--even though we don't yet know who that is.

A week ago, we learned NBC Universal would be pulling the project from Peacock, without an explanation as to why. As the Cedar Rapids Gazette reports, another publication (Variety) says that they are now shopping for a new home. As to how this works with the money staying intact, the Destination Iowa grant had reportedly not yet been officially appropriated to the project.

As of June 27, the state had awarded $16.5 million in Destination Iowa funding to four projects:

  • $6 million to the “Field of Dreams” TV series
  • $7 million to the Siouxland Regional Trail System
  • $2.5 million to Polk County’s Easter Lake North Shore Project
  • $1 million to a project connecting trails in central Iowa

All other aspects of the project remain intact, from the series being filmed in Iowa (though not Dyersville) and they are still giving you a chance to be part of the cast and crew, wherever it ends up--likely on another streaming service. Filming is expected to begin around Labor Day and last through early October, according to one of our previous stories.

Tickets have now gone on sale for the first-ever minor league to be held at the actual Field of Dreams, between Cedar Rapids and Quad Cities on August 9, with this year's Major League Baseball event on the site days later, on August 11.
