A family event in downtown Cedar Rapids will be providing school supplies for area kids, but you'd better get your name in now to be sure you're among the 500!

The Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation Department and Macaroni Kid are hosting the event, the 4th Annual Back 2 School Bash & Expo. It happens Saturday, August 6 from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the McGrath Amphitheatre in downtown Cedar Rapids. Five hundred kids will receive a variety of school supplies with their $5 ticket, which also gets them water and a snack at the event. Kids must be 18-and-under.

If you'd like to purchase a ticket to receive school supplies, please be sure to register in advance by calling 319-286-5566, stopping at the Ambroz Recreation Center (2000 Mt. Vernon Road Southeast) or Parks and Recreation Office at City Services Center (500 15th Ave. Southwest), or online by registering for program 103602-01 here.

The event is also open to parents, non-schoolers and those not interested in school supplies for free. Kids will be able to enjoy bounce houses, games, and entertainment. Concessions will be available for sale, as will face painting.

Charlotte Linde, the Community Events Coordinator for Macaroni Kid says, "Each year we have over 1200 in attendance and 500 ticket holders for a day full of family fun and back to school celebration!"

The rain date for the event is Sunday, August 7.
