5 Things People who Live in Cedar Rapids Need to Stop Complaining About
It's human nature to complain. In fact, most days it seems that people, in general, are not happy unless they have something to complain about. That being said, you can only "beat a drum" for so long before other people start wanting to beat you over the head so you'll be quiet.
I've lived in Cedar Rapids for about a year now and this is my outsider's perspective on things Cedar Rapidians complain about way too much.
I get it. Believe me I 100% sympathize with you on this. It's completely ridiculous that drivers can receive a ticket without an actual police officer having to do
one of the many things our tax dollars pay them to doanything. But the fact of the matter is, if you weren't breaking the law, you wouldn't receive one of those irritating tickets in the mail. It's actually that simple. Don't break the law, don't get a ticket. Stop complaining about it and just drive the speed limit.
One day it could be Crunch Berries and the next it could be fishy river du jour. Unless you've been a hermit and never left your house, you should know to expect this by now. Complaining about the smell isn't going to improve it or make it go away. You have to take the good with the bad, and it wouldn't be the "City of Five Smells" without both!
When I first moved here I had several people try to warn me to be prepared for my first Midwest winter. Seriously? This past winter was one of the mildest I've ever experienced in my whole life. It was ridiculously cold, I'll give you that, but you don't know nothin' about snow accumulation. This picture is from my hometown. Cedar Rapids didn't see accumulation even close to this during the last winter. Go spend a winter in the Northeast and then talk to me about bad winter weather.
You have got to be kidding me!!! There are so many interesting things to do and see in Iowa it's incredible to me how anyone is ever bored. Not to mention all of the great events we have coming up like the Insane Inflatable 5K presented by GoDaddy, Thomas Dostal Developers Freedom Festival Concert, and NewBo Music Festival presented by The National. Honestly, if you really think there's nothing to do here then I think there's no hope for you and you should settle in for a very boring life.
I'm only going to say this once -- They are college students. The pressure you people put on these student athletes is so insane to me. You don't have pro sports teams in Iowa, I understand that and I'm sorry for you but that doesn't mean it's appropriate for you to treat these kids like they have the same multi-million dollar contracts the pros do. Not only do they have to worry about playing their best so they don't disappoint you, but they also have to worry about practices on top of classes and homework and trying to have a normal college student social life. Go easy on them, I'm sure they're doing the best they can.
