Well, we’re almost 3 months into the “new year”.  I have not kept up with my New Year’s resolutions.  Come to think of it, I didn’t even make one.  I think spring is the more fitting time to set goals.  Who the hell wants to make a positive life change on January 1st, in the middle of fricking winter?  If somebody made me make resolutions at the turn of the year, it would be something like: 1) Stay warm, 2) Don’t become deeply, deeply depressed, 3) Re-think the whole settling down in Iowa thing.  Spring is the true mark of new life/new beginnings, and therefore it’s time to try out a couple resolutions.

1)      Enough with the daily Dunkin’ Donuts visits.  Almost every weekday on my way in to work, I’ve been stopping by the Dunkin’ Donuts on Blairs Ferry Road.  2 donuts and a medium coffee with cream and sugar.  The employees are giving me that look like, “Yeah, we got you hooked you pathetic bastard.”  My sweet tooth is out of control.  Cut back on this.

2)      Tidy up.  Yes, good ol’ spring cleaning.  Get rid of crap that is filling up the house.  But this is more a request for my wife to quit bringing stuff into the house.  Our 2 year-old does not need every room in the house filled to the brim with various brightly colored, plastic, hundred-piece toys.  So I guess my resolution is to get my wife on board with my OCD in regards to tidiness and minimalism.

3)      Exercise.  Nothing crazy, but you’d think I could do a damn push-up once in a while!  Maybe stretching muscles that are beginning to atrophy would be a good idea?  A DJ’s jaw is about the only area of the body that gets a workout.

4)      Listen to music the old-fashioned way.  I love listening to “Iowa’s Alternative” all day long on KRNA.  Don’t get me wrong.  But I really enjoy listening to a full album by artists that still care enough to present an LP as a complete presentation/piece of art.  Two to three times a week, it would be nice to throw on the headphones and listen to a full album… seems like an outdated activity in this super-fast paced world.
